It's about 11 hours, however, and the uploader did not include timecodes, but a written note can deal with that and it's great background noise for drawing, or something, too.
The translation is solid, despite some alterations here and there. These alterations change little aside from making some violent and disturbing things a little less violent and disturbing. There is still enough of that in there, but, as Terry Pratchett said (paraphrasing here): Children generally don't mind gratuitious violence and bloodshed as long as everything is well deserved by the victim and perpertrator .
This should keep me busy working for a while, thanks =D I found the recording on librivox itself, it has everything separated into chapters (or ful download if desired) and will save a bit of bandwidth. librivox.org/grimms-fairy-tales-version-2-by-jacob-wilhelm-grimm/ Looks like that reader has done a bunch of stuff that might be worth take a look at.
While I'm on a Librivox kick I figured I'd share my favourite recording I've found on there so far: The Jungle Book! Gotta love some Rudyard Kipling, I'll probably go through it again soon. There is a different collaborative recording of The Jungle Book on the site but this reader does a nice job on her own.
Finally got through the last of the Grimm tales today! Boy some of them are a bit depressive =P (the ones with a TPK) I recognised a whole bunch of classics in there, but the majority of them were new to me.
Yeah, I think, while they were used for childrens story, too, they were a bit like early cartoons, for adults, too. And indeed, I had a big book with all of them as a kid but even then I guess the classics were the most memorable, hehe.
I came across some eastern european tales the other day but my computer crapped out and now I can't find it anymore. Shame, but I'll post it, too, should I find it again.
The things I have learnt: -don't be a fox, it usually doesn't end well if the main character is a fox. -if a fox gives you some advice, listen to that advice! -if you're the nicest of three brothers, the other two will probably try to kill you at some point. -if someone eats you, just sit tight, you'll be fine! Someone will come along and cut you out once the person that ate you is asleep and put rocks in them instead.
